Is the Hecticness of the Holidays Starting to Freak You Out?

Is the Hecticness of the Holidays Starting to Freak You Out?

Chaos, swirling, anxiety, untethered. You know the holiday season is approaching from the frenzied TV ads and the over-the-top store decorations. Holiday decorations before Halloween. Really?!

You may wonder if this is the year you decided Scrooge had the best idea and gave out coal.

Before you go that far, I have something that can change your Ba-Humbug to Hallelujah.

You’ll need a piece of paper, a pen, and five minutes.

Think about what worries you, stealing much of your brain power and energy.

NEXT:

  1. Fold the paper in half vertically.
  2. At the top of the left side of the paper, write “MINE.”
  3. At the top of the right side of your paper, write “SOMEONE ELSE’S.”
  4. Make a list under MINE of the things you can control.
  5. Under the SOMEONE ELSE’S side, write what you cannot control. Look at that list and note to whom you could delegate each item listed. Perhaps your partner, a co-worker, and if it’s no one, then the Universe, God, or whomever you feel has the ultimate authority.
  6. If you are going to delegate,on the back of the MINE side, write to whom and by when you will delegate those jobs. Leave the actions delegated to your higher authority on SOMEONE ELSE’S side of the sheet.
  7. Rip the paper vertically down the middle. You are going to burn SOMEONE ELSE’S side. Burn safely over a pan or sink. Let the smoke carry the list to where ever it needs to go.
  8. Begin to prioritize your much shorter list.
  9. Follow through with your commitment to yourself to delegate the tasks that you can delegate to another person.

Remember, if you continue to do what you’ve always done, you will continue to get what you have always gotten.
